Imagine receiving a phone call and emails telling you someone must have hijacked your emails. When clicking on the link in the email, she was taken to the wrong URL. Now imagine you are the one who wrote the email and you put in the wrong URL.

I don’t have to imagine it. I’m the one who posted the wrong URL and received the emails and phone calls.

There are those who are sticklers for details and those who are not. I’m in the “not” camp and, because of it, sent out emails and posted messages on the blog with the wrong URL. Anyone who clicks on the URL goes to someone else’s WEB site, not the Energized Silks blog.

Not professional . . . and not fun.

What I’ve learned

Be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. I am great at coming up with ideas, writing and other such things. I’m not good at details. I tend to not notice them unless I trip over them.

Be sure and proof read anything you send out. If you are not a good proof reader, have someone else read your message. Even if you are a good proof reader, put your message aside for a day and read through it again. You’re more likely to catch errors.

Click on each and every link, whether URL or email address. Be sure those links take you exactly where you want your reader to go.

You don’t want to give someone else your business, and you certainly don’t want to give the impression you are incompetent. You may be wonderful in every area of your business other than proof reading. People make decisions about you and your product based upon the image you give in your messages.

And an amazing synchronicity …

Jay Leno, on The Tonight Show, was showing headlines with typos that were funny. He preceded this headline with the comment, “No wonder the automobile industry is having difficulty: “Buy a ‘Frod’” instead of a Ford.

If you don’t proof read, you might be the laughing stock on national television.
