Goal Setting: Affirmations Support your Goals and your Journey – Part One

A journey begins with a single step … as long as it’s in the right direction.

It is crucial to know where you are going before beginning your journey. Goal setting, as simple as “I’m going to Hawaii,” places that crucial step in the correct direction. Just as important, your goal instructs your subconscious mind about your intentions.

Goal setting, however, is not the whole story.

You can strengthen the progress to your goal by developing a few well-formed affirmations. There is a trick to knowing what kind of affirmations to develop.

Think of one of your primary goals. Yes, right now. Get in touch with your feelings about the goal. What are you feeling right now? Excited? Anxious? Joyful? Energized? Fearful? Frustrated? Motivated? Numb? Are your feelings consistent, as in all supportive? Are they a mixture of both supportive and limiting?

Your feelings while being in touch with your goals are signals as to whether or not you will achieve your goal, and how much fun it will be. Believe me, I know from personal experience that if there isn’t fun in there somewhere, your goal will be difficult to reach.

Now that you are aware of your feelings, you can develop supportive affirmations to assist you on your journey. You want an affirmation that is positive and in present tense. If your goal is to learn something by a particular date your affirmation would be something like, “I learn and understand ___________ on or before ____________.” These types of affirmations continue to signal your subconscious mind about where you want to go.

There is, however, a problem with the affirmation I just gave you. Remember those feelings you had when thinking about your goal? They tell you whether or not there is a conflict between what you consciously want and where your subconscious mind wants to take you. If you felt anything other than supportive feelings (happy, joyful, excited, motivated, etc.), your subconscious mind has informed you there is a conflict between your goal and your beliefs about achieving your goal.
